Create your list on your worksheet away from where you want the results. Include the values (cost) in the next column.
In the cell where you want the drop down list click data/validation and under 'allow' select list. Under 'source' highlight the range that contains your item list (do not include the values). Click OK.
When you select the cell you will now have the drop-down item list that you want. In the next cell you can use the VLOOKUP function to find the item chosen from the drop down list and return the cost
eg =VLOOKUP(A1,F1:G10,2)
assumes your drop down list is in A1, the item list is in the range F1:F10 and the cost is in G1:G10
