Pionte shoes are a traditional element of ballet. Originally, they were created to give the illusion of the dancer floating across the stage, but now they are so imbedded in balet tradition that they are worn by all professional females.
Ballat shoes are mostly worn indoors for use on stage and practice rooms for dance only, so they would not be appropriate for fitness class. But if you want them, you can purchase them on lightinthebox.com.

That is not necessarily true, 'hard tipped shoes' which are called pointe shoes are worn in training to prepare for dances on stage. This is called 'pointe work'. Some dances performed are occasionally not suited for pointe shoes, so soft shoes will be worn for performances, they are quite regularly. Younger dancers will wear leather, satin or canvas shoes ('Soft Shoes') while training as well as on stage because their feet are not strong enough to hold their weight on their own feet.
