- What the two of you are doing wrong is not communicating with each other properly. You need to ask her why she feels she doesn't want to be in a relationship with you and if she gives you a reason then you will have to respect her wishes no matter how you feel. You can express how you feel, but unfortunately, this may not change her mind and it is time you took control of the situation by backing off for awhile. Sometimes when you try too hard to get someone or something back you never do, but, if you start going out with friends and dating again this may be a big enough jolt for your ex girlfriend to sit up and take notice and she may realize she loves you. Trying to force her to love you will not work and begging and pleading never does either.

It really depends on how much she likes the guy. And of course since they have been together for a long time it will be different and a little weird, but she'll get used to it. It could take her a few seconds or a few months. Again it depends on who she is.
