(Okay, not enough room to put my question clearly enough above, so I'm putting it here as an answer... hope this is clear.)
You have a document to print out for a large number of students at a school:
* All students need Sections 1, 3, 4 and 7
* Only some students need Sections 2, 5 and 6
* Only some of these need Section 6(a)
* A small number of students need Sections 8 & 9
The doc is very big and just about fells a tree when printed in its entirety! To save on costs, help the environment and avoid excess/unnecessary reading, you want to print only the required sections for each student.
Additionally;
* Student intakes are regular with all different combinations of the above
* For version control purposes, it is ideal to keep one centralised document, rather than multiple versions

create a Word table, Select the entire table and Copy, paste into an Excel doc, save Excel doc as .csv
In Google Drive, select the doc, right click, select to share, enter collaborator details, select done. Job done.
Powerpoint files can be opened in the Open Office Presentation section. Select a New Presentation from the File menu. Select the Open Existing Presentation option. Click the Open... button and select your Powerpoint file. Powerpoint files with the extensions .ppt .pps .pot .pptm .pptx .potm or .potx are recognised.
Open your text document Go to the edit menu Click on "select all" Right click on the highlighted text Select copy Open your word document and paste.

Save the file using the 'save as' function - and select the file type from the drop-down menu.
Assuming your running windows xp *1. Open your browser and click on C:(local disk)2. Click search in your toolbar,(or Ctrl-E)3. Type name of file if applicable(optional)4. Click More Advanced Options arrow5. Select .doc(application that handles .doc Extensions) from the Type of file option.6. Select any other options or insert any key words to refine your search results7. Search!

Select the text. Press Ctrl - C to copy it. Then you can go into Word and paste it. You could use Ctrl - V to do that.
