Buy a rear wheel that can take a fixed sprocket. Mak sure the spacing fits your frame width.

Tinker with your crank and/or the wheel centering to get a good chain line.

Install new chain. remove derailers. Ride.

Can you skid on a fixed gear road bike?

If the bike is set up properly, with a real fixed hub, then you should be able to do it. Keep in mind that the contact patch on a road bike is quite small, and that you're likely to wear your tire out quickly.

What is the difference between a gear and brake?

A brake shows the car/bike down until it comes to a hult/stop. A gear changes the speed the engine works at depending on what type of road you are driving on and the speed limits. If you are asking about a bike then the gear's change the speed at which you pedal at, gear 7 on a bike makes you pedal slower but you have to push harder down on the pedals, however gear 1 on a bike makes you have to pedal faster and more genitally on the pedals, - both gears really work your muscles... so if you have a bike with gears up to 7 stay on 3 or 4! Gear box = what you use to change the gears on a car. Handle bar = what you use to change the gears on a bike.

What is the rear spacing on your 2004 trek madone?

Hard to tell, that hub is available in both 130 and 135 mm configuration. It seems like Trek considers it to be a road bike, in which case it should be 130 mm.

What is a fixie bike?

Fixie bike are bikes (usually road bike frames) that have a fixed rear sprocket which allows you to pedal forward like normal, but does not allow you to just coast . If you pedal backwards it goes backwards if you pedal slow it will remain slow. The whole point of a fixie is to eliminate brakes shifters to simplify a road bike.

Why not ride a mountain bike on the road?

A road bike is faster on the road than a mountain bike. That's all

Which is easier to pedal a mountain bike or a racing bike?

That'd depend entirely on what gear you're in, and both road bike and MTBs usually come with several gears to choose from. But, a MTB is heavier, have coarser tire treads and will give you a less aerodynamic riding positions - so for the same amount of effort you'll go faster on a road bike.

What bikes do they use in the tour de france?

At that level of competition, there might - might - be a few competitors who are using a bike that you have heard of, if you are a rider. But trust me, the overwhelming number of riders use custom-built bikes designed especially for them, and costing five figures. The same is true of many other such professional endeavors.
