In order to follow Maslow's theory in hospitalized patients, each patient would receive a Palliative Care consult allowing for a discussion of the patient's pain management, spiritual care and psychological well being. with the patient and family. Including the patient's wishes and understanding of their current medical condition into any conversation would establish that the most basic needs were addressed. The comment "Nothing discussed about me without me" would cover this idea if we followed it in our hospitals.
