I would suggest looking up information on acting itself and try practicing some techniques. If you can pick it up then go for it. Try different roles. Look at some plays such as shakespeares, Millers, etc. Become well versed and you stand a chance. Diction is very important as well. As a sixteen year old in highschool you can join clubs which take quite a bit of acting such as drama club and speech team. There are acting schools as well. Search for some and you can become acquainted with the business that way. Agencies are important as well. It is very important that your parents back you 100% because it takes a lot of time and dedication.

Life experience is one of the most important things and a strong sense of empathy for any character that you choose to play. I would say that taking an acting class with a really good instructor would be a good way to find out if acting is something you might enjoy.
There are many different personality types, and they all lend themselves differently to preparing for and acting in a play. If you enjoy being onstage and beign watched, and playing characters, then you will almost certainly enjoy being in a play. If you do not enjoy these things, then you probably will have a slightly painful experience acting in a play.
