Since you say "mutual break up," it can only be assumed that neither of you wanted to commit to this relationship and you both wanted to end it. So even if this is true, after two years of such a close relationship, perhaps this boy simply feels awkward being around you as a casual acquaintance. You say he adored you, which means you were extremely close. Now that you're no longer dating, your friendship is not the same; maybe your guy just forgot what you were like before you were dating, and doesn't know how to address you as a friend anymore. He's acquainted with a different side of you; he's used to saying "I'm lucky to have you." Perhaps he genuinely believes that the side you exhibit as "just a friend" is not the same side you exhibited as "girlfriend." This doesn't mean he doesn't like you or has any less respect for you; it just means that after such a close long-term relationship, your friendship may well not be the same for a while.
