How can a hedgehog survive?

A pet hedgehog needs these things -

• A secure and adequate cage, at least 24"x24", with no way a hedgehog can fall or climb over the edge (any cage with slick walls and no top should be 12" high)
• Appropriate cage placement. This means a warm and dry area (72-80 degrees Fahrenheit). DO NOT place them in direct sunlight.
• Correct bedding. Aspen, Pine, White shavings work well - be sure to freeze them previously to prevent mites. Crushed corn cob can be used for adults, but NOT for young males. Shredded paper, and other things like care fresh or pads can be used.

DO NOT USE CEDAR BEDDING!!!!!

• A food bowl. This needs to be fairly wide and heavy to prevent your hedgie from turning it over. It should be no more than 3 inches high.
• A Water bottle. They are preferred over water dishes.
• A hiding place. This can be a hedgie pouch, a modified shoe box, cut up PVC pipe, or etc. This needs to be washed or replaced every few weeks.
• A litter box. Most hedgies will use one if you provide one! Dust free is a good choice; clump free litter is the best choice. Corner litter boxes, made for ferrets, are a great choice.
• A exercise wheel. Your hedgie NEEDS a wheel! Exercise is a KEY part of your hedgies life. This will help keep him from getting fat, and will keep him entertained! Be sure that the wheel is solid, or made out of fine mesh, so that your hedgies' small legs don't get caught, and his legs broke.

DO NOT give your hedgie a flavored chew toy! Hedgehogs are not rodents, and their teeth do not constantly grow. Putting in or encouraging constant chewing can severely damage your pets teeth and jaw.

Try a hedgie bag. They are little bags like sleeping bags, but for hedgehogs. Hedgehogs need a warm, dark place they can hide and take sanctuary. You could also try a shoebox with a door cut out in one side and an inside lining of wool or felt; just until you get something permident. For more info see the related link below.
