How hard is it to take care of a hedgehog?

Hedgehogs are relatively easy to care for compared to most exotics, however, they require a very large amount of time dedication. Here are some things to consider:

  • Hedgehogs must maintain a warm body temperature in order not to fall into a false hibernation, which means the ambient air temperature needs to be 75-80 degrees. This needs to be constantly monitored to ensure the hedgehog is always safe and depending on your method of heating can be expensive.
  • Hedgehogs should always be fed set rations every day to ensure you know exactly how much they are eating. The first signs of illness come from them going off their food or water.
  • You will need to regularly clean their cage, this is usually a recommended once a week unless you have a litter box, in which case it's a need-by need basis.
  • Most all hedgehogs use litter boxes; even so, those will need to be scooped ever day or every other day.
  • Hedgehogs need to be bathed and have their toenails trimmed at least once a month. Most hedgehogs don't like this, at all, and won't make it easy for you. It can take upwards of 45 minutes just to wash and trim a grumpy, unreasonable hog.
  • Hedgehogs need exercise; wheels are the best solution but they'll likely be pooped in while running. These need to be rinsed/washed every day.

And the biggest part - for your pet to grow up to be a sociable animal, they should get at LEAST 15 minutes of socialization a day, but PREFERABLY 30 minutes or more.

Heart Rate

How many times does a hedgehog's heart beat per minute?

The heart rate of a hedgehog (or any animal) is dependent on a number of environmental factors. But on average, studies have shown that a hedgehog's resting heart rate is in the range of 190 to 280 beats per minute and about 147 beats per minute when sleeping.
190 to 280 times per minuite!
This depends on if the hedgehog is in hibernation mode or not. A hedgehog with normal activity who is not in hibernation mode has approximately 190 beats per minute. On the other hand, a hedgehog who has gone into hibernation mode will sometimes be mistaken for a hedgehog who has passed. His body temperature will drop 20% or more and his heart rate will be as low as 20 beats per minute. He will also be lethargic and may be extremely hard to wake up.
Hedgehogs normal heart beat is around 190 per minute but when they hibernate, their heart beat falls dramatically to 20 beats per minute.

How do hedgehogs move if they are blind?

Hedgehogs are not blind. Like most mammals, they're born blind, but only for a few days.

There is no such thing as a "hedgehog store". If you are referring to a pet store, do not buy one from there. They typically do not properly breed or socialize the animals; if they do not breed the animals themselves, then they buy them from a sub-par breeder. No quality breeder would ever sell their animals in such a manner.

If you are looking for a BREEDER, you can find a reputable one at the links listed below.

Sonic the Hedgehog

Who is Sonic the Hedgehog?

Sonic the Hedgehog is a fictional character created by Sega in 1991. He was created to be Sega's mascot. Originally, he stared in many video games, but later moved to television and other media.

Sonic has the appearance of a streamlined hedgehog with shoes and gloves, as well as the ability to stand on his hind legs and run faster than the speed of sound. He also has control over Chaos Emeralds, seven special jewels which give special powers on the Planet Mobius.

In the first few games, Sonic was rounder and more childlike in appearance. Since 1998, he has been a lot slimmer and has longer features as well as green eyes.

Personality-wise, Sonic is a hero at heart. He cares for other people and is often described as free-spirited, adventurous and wild. Sonic tends to be stubborn and hasty, which together with his unshakable confidence is dangerous--but he always looks after his friends.

Lastly, when the seven Chaos Emeralds are with him, Sonic may change into Super Sonic. His spikes curve upwards and his body turns yellow-gold. In this state his powers are immense.
