Definately a blighted ovum. Not much info out there, noone talks about it and you never hear of it. There was a conception so you were/are pregnant (!) but although the sac develops etc, the embryo does not continue to develop. Its very hard because people you tell will carelessly offer up their 'phantom pregnancy' and 'so you wernt even pregnant' comments, but in fact you were/are. Investigate curette and natural miscarriage and weigh up the options. The induction style with drugs to expel the pregnancy had me in hospital 4 days only to have a curette but its not the same for everyone. The curette has risks and you SHOULD wait at least one period before trying to conceive again while waiting to miscarry naturally is better for the body, less risky but hard to wait for while you continue 'being pregnant'. Ho hum. Theres no saying you will have another one if that helps and women go on to have healthy babies.

AnswerIt doesn't disappear...it was never formed. It's called a blighted ovum. Your are pregnant, your body feels pregnant, but the embryo does not grow into the next stage...it just stops being. Its hard on woman, because usually you don't find out until two-four weeks after it ceases to exist. So here you are all happy and really the "baby" doesn't exist. I experienced light brownish discharge with mine..from about 6 weeks to 10 when I finally had a intervaginal sonogram.

I to had a blighted ovum. I was so happy when i finally found out. but i had cramps and i went to the er. They did an intruterine sonogram on me also i had a sac and was about 6 1/2 weeks along. It was actually a long process and I took it pretty hard. I would be driving down the road an start balling. IF you have this your not considered not pregnant so don't put your self down you just basically had a miscarriage. I have to remind my slef that sometimes. I just say i am a mommy of an angel. :) well anyways i ended up passing the sac a week later i remember the contraction pains and sitting on the toilet for hours. I put on some pads and went to sleep and woke up twice covered in blood. It is very hard mentally but I am stronger and i do many things to rmember my baby! hope you never experience the pain of a blighted ovum.

What does an empty amniotic sac mean?

What is a Blighted Ovum (Empty Gestational Sac)? A blighted ovum (empty gestational sac) occurs when a fertilized egg implants into the uterine wall, however, the fetus does not continue to develop past the sixth to eighth week of gestation. There is continued development of the placenta and amniotic sac which produces hCG (giving the positive pregnancy test). Most women either do not know they are pregnant or find out within the first trimester that they have a blighted ovum (empty gestational sac).

At what month in pregnancy do hcg blood levels change?

HCG levels are constantly changing in pregnancy. However, they begin rising around 8-9 days after conception, and continue to increase sharply until about the tenth week of pregnancy, when they begin to reduce again. They don't disappear completely until after the birth. If the pregnancy is not normal, the levels will rise very slowly, remain stable, or fall.

Can period continue in pregnancy?

No, menstruation cannot contrinue during pregnancy. Menstruation will only occur if the egg during ovulation is not fertilised. You cannot menstruate while pregnant, although you can bleed for a few reasons so if you do experience bleeding during menstruation you should see your doctor.

Is there a risk with an irregular shaped gestational sac?

I had an irregular shaped gestational sac. At 8 weeks I had a scan which showed that the yolk sac measured 8 weeks but the fetal pole only measured 6 weeks but there was a heart beat. I had a repeat scan 2 weeks later sadly to find that the sac had collapsed and no heart beat. I have to go for a D and C tomorrow because my body as not rejected the pregnancy. Thus in my case a irregular shaped gestational sac was not a good sign. I also had a slightly irregular shaped gestational sac first noticed at a 6 week scan with a heartbeat of 118. I had bleading with this pregnancy as well that started as a light discharge and then became a steady period. I went to the E.R. at 8 weeks and the baby's heartbeat was strong at 150. The E.R. doctor said they could not tell where the bleading was coming from, but noted again that the ultrasound showed a slightly irregular shaped gestational sac and to follow up in 1 week. Two days later, I miscarried at home. After talking to several friends that are OBGYNs, any irregularity to the gestational sac will most likely lead to a miscarriage.

If you get the implant while you are pregnant, you can still decide to continue or terminate the pregnancy. The implant does not harm or end a pregnancy.
