The skua bird is sometimes called a scavenger.
Skua find the Antarctic beaches -- where they breed -- to be a natural habitat for them.

The skua is considered a scavenger bird and they can be aggressive.
Skua are well adapted to survive in Antarctica, with their layer of fat next to their skin. As well, their webbed feet toes end in talons, so they can feed on other birds, especially eggs and chicks. They have also discovered the research station garbage dumps and have learned how to feed from them. Some tagged skua have been known to live for 25 years in Antarctica, or more.
Antarctic skua breed on Antarctica's beaches and otherwise live elsewhere. Skua chicks, like all bird chicks, are subject to being preyed upon by any raptor interested in feeding its young.

At certain times, a skua can be very mean. They will fight another animal or large bird over a dead animal.
The scientific or taxonomic name would be Catharacta antarctica.
Skua is a sea bird, and although it doesn't immerse itself in liquid water to warm itself -- like a penguin might, it can float on the water and warm itself that way. As well, when the Skua are in Antarctica, they are breeding, the sun is up 24/7 and the air is warmer than in winter.
