dogs can be identified by either a collar or by a tiny microchip that is usually inserted under the skin of its neck. If it has a microchip you would need a scanner that will identify its owner, the dogs name and when it was born, where it lives, phone number of owner (and other information is included with it)=i really hope that this helps :]=

Dogs can recognise different people by what they look like, how they sound, eg recognising the voice and of course the scent. Their sense of smell is so strong that they are capable of following owners for miles. Each of us are individuals and it's our differences that help the dog figure out who is who. Mine are capable of recognising me visually from a very long distance, I don't need to call them.
