How can atheists believe there is no God when they cannot prove it?

Perhaps theists should say there is probably a God, and atheists say there is probably no God (as Dawkins does).

∙ 10y agoThe burden of proof lies on the theists, not the atheists. Its like me saying there's a spaghetti monster living on the bottom of the ocean, how can you believe its not there when you cannot prove it?
Carl Sagan reviews the problems with convincing people that their imaginary friends do not exist in his story "There's a Dragon in My Garage". In brief he shows that his honest belief that there is no dragon is confounded by the believers' excuses for every logical proof that the critter does not exist.
