You can insert the current date and time into a document at the current cursor location by selecting Date and Time from the Insert menu on the menu bar. In the dialog box, you can select from many date and time formats. You can also choose whether you want the date and time to remain as they are now, or whether they are to be updated to the time the document is opened every time it is opened, by clearing or checking the "Update automatically" check box.

There are also date and time fields that can be inserted by selecting Field from the Insert menu; for example, creation date, last saved date, print date.
