The act of reading email is not a profession, however, the act of responding and providing consultation in the form of an email response could perhaps be. For example, a Physician might offer medical opinions via email for a fee (although most states have enacted legislation that mandates a face to face visit before an Rx may lawfully be prescribed).

Were the email reader planning on becoming an author, all of the emails he or she had read might be categorized as research. Therefore, the email reader's profession (admittedly self proclaimed) could be termed "virtual researcher".
