You fire electrons at a piece of uranium, which creates heat (or thermal energy). This heat is used to heat water up, which turns it to steam. This steam is then used to turn a turbine, which allows electricity to be created.

In case of nuclear fission enormous heat will be produced. This heat will be used to produce steam at very high pressure. This would drive a turbine effectively and therefrom electricity is produced by the principle of electromagnetic induction.
