There are several ways to fax items using an IP. One of the most reliable and official method is to fax using scan to fax. Simply scan the item you wish to send and email it like you would with any other attachment. It is also possible to use VoIP channels, which suffer from an inability to retrieve and compress files, or via the fax gateway method, which requires that an IP fax machine be utilized.
A fax gateway is the ability to send a fax over an IP than a traditional fax machine. Just like you can make phone calls over the internet with a VoIP line, there is a special FoIP that allows one to Fax over IP. Your IT crew at work can probably install this.
generally no, you cannot use a fax machine as a modem to connect to the internet. However, there are some fax machines that can connect and send faxes strictly over the internet - essentially a fax machine can send to another fax machine that has the same capability through the internet over the ip address system. Look up T.38 and fax over ip for more information

There are two ways to fax through the internet: Fax over IP, and an internet fax service. Fax over IP is a system based on the ITU T.38 standard that allows faxing over IP in real time. For this to work, you would need to fax machines compatible with the T.38 standard. An online fax service is hosted by a fax service provider, and works very much like a webmail service like hotmail or gmail does - it sends and receives faxes for you, and does so from a system hosted by the provider instead of through a fax machine sitting in your office.
Hi, there, It depends how reliable is your internet. It is basically a voice over IP with T38 capability. This means that at any time you can receive multiple faxes ( up to 30?) instead of one page by one as on normal fax machines... and simulteneously send multiple faxes. There are hundreds out there, the one I was recommended is Axiatel dot com that notifies you immediately if fax was received or not and what sort of problem...it doesn't give you false positive, that I think is reliable. Hope it helps!
A digital fax can be two things: 1) a fax sent through the ITU T.38 standard for fax over the internet. This is a communication standard that was developed to let two fax machines communicate over the internet (IP) instead of using a phone connection. 2) a fax sent through an online fax service - it works very much like webmail service, but for faxes - you can send and receive from a web-based inbox through a computer or mobile phone. It doesn't use paper or electricity and it can go to anybody's email. It also doesn't need a fax line as the services are performed by special providers that give you applications for faxing.
Fax (short for facsimile) is a voice technology based on telegraphy that allows the electronic transfer of images over the telephone network. Patented by Alexander Bain in 1843, fax technology did not gain widespread popularity until the 1970s, when the first affordable "fax machines" became available. RightFax is a fax server product owned by OpenText Corporation that allows users to route and manage large volumes of faxed information securely. As fax technology has improved, RightFax now enables fax over IP (FoIP) via an Internet connector, allowing RightFax users to exchange data in the cloud and bypass the telephone network altogether.
Yes, most fax machines require a telephone line as well as a connection to the phone network to send and receive faxes. While there are some fax machines that can fax over an IP connection, this is still the standard method for connecting a fax machine.
