The only way to rectify the poor voice quality on their 3Gphone that has ATT coverage is to get the microphone replaced. If this doesn't fix it then a new phone is needed.

Not the Chocolate. On my second one and no one can hear me when I pronounce the "s" sound as in "sea". I hear people on the othe end just fine. This phone has excelent voice recording quality, but the speaker is not that loud. It's good though but it's not as loud as the Sony Ericsson phones (especialy the Walkman ones)
