Sadness in children is a normal emotion and should not be pushed aside and covered up. As with any emotion, too much can become problematic, so with this in mind, here are some tips to alleviate unnecessary sadness. Surround the child with things they are comfortable with, whether this be a favorite toy, family, friends, etc, anything that makes the child comfortable. Try to have the child talk about their sadness- many times just being able to put emotions into words will help alleviate sad feelings.
