The elections office in each election puts out a booklet of candidates and bills that are in the election. The candidates submit a biographical statement of experience, education, views, political party, and philosophy of government. Newspapers also put out a election edition detailing the candidates views and biographies. If you don't get these things call the people running for office and ask them to send you the information. They will be glad to do it.

Individuals who already hold office are referred to as "incumbents." Incumbents typically have the advantage of established name recognition, experience in their roles, and existing relationships with constituents and other officials. Their status can influence elections, as they often seek re-election against challengers who may not have the same level of visibility or resources.
A person running for political office is called a candidate. Candidates typically represent a political party or run as independents, and they seek election to a specific position such as president, senator, mayor, or council member. During their campaign, candidates present their platform and policies to voters in the hopes of winning their support and ultimately being elected to the office they are seeking.
The candidate is the name for the person running for office. Many times the people know little or nothing about the candidate who is running for office.
