Well first of all you cant become a partner for a company that you already work for, but there are partnership programs from companys that you can apply for, and they give you an x number of money from the profit they make. Anyways it does not make you and your family responsible if the company goes in debt. You only own a part of that company not all of it. Now if you own all of the company then you would be responsible for the company's debt, but since you own a part of it that would not make you fully responsible for the company's debt.
