Some people have that ability, especially men, and they can do anything else, even remotely interesting to distract themselves from what they are feeling. It is different for a lot of women who can't help but listen to their feelings. Sometimes anger can overide all other feelings, no matter how loving or caring, if you want someone to open up, you need to talk to them, and get them to express themselves emotionally, without scaring them off.
