For the DS version: Once you get a large amount of money (I think around 900 million dollars) the mayor will come to your house and ask if you want to buy an island for 900 million dollars. If you say yes you can go to it buy going on top of the boat near the beach shore. To build a house on it just ask the carpenter to build it for you after you buy the island.

∙ 13y agoIn the DS & DS Cute game, you order it through the phone. Gotz is the carpenter you talk to. House Upgrade #1 is 3000 G, req. 200 material stone. You must have a Table first though - you can get this through TV Shopping. House Upgrade #2 is 10,000 G, req. 700 material stone.
In HM: Save the Homeland for PS2, you go to the carpenter (he's in the forest), and you order the house upgrade. You'll get a bathroom + toilet, and kitchen, if I remember correctly.
For the other games, I don't know sorry.

∙ 13y agoThe cottage is on the island. you get the island by asking the fishing team to work at the ocean in the winter then when you wake up in the morning you will have 1,000,000G; now DON'T SPEND ANY OF IT THE WHOLE WINTER! On the first day of spring Thomas will be there and ask you if you want to buy the island.
