No, even computer controlled transmissions are not affected by disconnecting the cables other than having to re-learn the shift characteristics again. You may notice the shifts to be a little harsher until the computer relearns them in a few miles.
have the cables been checked. same happened to my 87 same problem found it was the orgnial cables needed to be replaced.
red first, black last is correct. always connect positive cables first and negative or ground cables last
This will not work on many OBD (compterized) cars. The engine will die shortly after disconnecting the battery cable. The computer must be power by the battery.
Try disconnecting your battery cables for a few minutes then reconnect them and try using your correct radio code again.

nope....stator as in the alt? dont do it. this was a test before the computer days... you will surge/ zap the comp. or did you mean starter? either way the answer is no
