You take your truck to a commercial truck service center and have them adjust them.

If you are not certified to adjust them yourself...it is illegal and also very dangerous.

If YOU have to ask this question then you are not permitted or qualified to operate a commercial vehicle. But here i go, if they are self adjusting then you can physically grab adjuster and engage it by pulling it, if there is more than 1 inch of travel then it needs to be adjusted. ( MIND YOU THAT BRAKES MUST BE IN THE RELEASED POSITION AND WHEELS MUST BE CHOCKED ) BLOCKED THAT IS, to prevent vehicle roll and possibly death!!!!! Self adjusters also have a locking mechanism separate than the adjusting screw. while adjusting or turning this screw the locking mechanism prevents the screw from turning opposite direction or loosening. If your adjusting screw turns in both direction with equal force with no resistance then your slack adjuster needs replacement. On manual adjusters the theory is the same except the locking mechanism is also built in with the adjusting screw, you should be able to turn the adjusting screw in both directions, although in one direction it will be under more force required as the ratcheting or locking mecanism will be realeasing ( clicking ). If neither adjuster locks, it needs replaced, if adjuster screw only turns in one direction and wont release, it nedds replaced.

What else can I help you with?

However, if the slack adjuster moves more than this range, it may indicate wear or a need for adjustment. It's essential to also check for proper functioning and alignment, as excessive play can lead to brake system inefficiency and safety concerns.
