with a OBD II code reader...available at most parts stores or auto zone ..advanced auto parts and places such as these will do it for free
A pineapple grenade because you are about to mess up the 88 truck has a weak motor prob don't have as much power as the 305 vortec don't do it get computer and motor from a vortec to put in the truck
NO. That would be the TBI / throttle body injection engine Not a vortec. The vortec will not work in the 91.
The 4.3 Vortec IS the 4.3 V6.
A vortec 5.7 is a lt1 based engine.
No it is not.
If the 1991 was 305 or 350 truck, you would need to Install a GM performace parts Vortec TBI Intake Manifold (Just do a google search for GMPP Vortec TBI Intake) as well as you would need the stock Vortec Exhaust Manifolds and EGR Tube( Its the tube that runs from the left exhaust manifold to the intake). The rest of the parts you could transfer off of the original 305 or 350. Then you would either need to install fuel injectors from a 454 with Throttle Body Injection or you would need to find someplace to "burn" you a new computer chip for your truck.

That's what is in every 1/2 ton truck that has a vortec 350 in it. From 1992 to date. The 3/4 tons had the 4L80E in them.
NO. the bellhousings are different on the 96 and 97 transmissions then all the rest of the transmissions in the 90s
I know on my vortec engine the valve cover bolts are in the center of the cover and there is only 4, my racecar has vortec heads and my truck has standard stock heads with four bolts on thew corners
Can't It is tied into the computer and will most likely cause error codes.
I could be wrong, but I have a Vortec 350 in a GMC truck and I think the computer handles the ignition timing. If your talking about valve timing I would assume there are marks on the timing gears like the days of old, but I haven't torn the timing cover off of mine yet.
