A pet turtle would be easier to convince your parents that a ferret. A ferret as a pet requires a lot of care, more than a cat or dog.
First off, you need to be sure you are ready for the responsibility of owning a turtle. If you are considering a water turtle, they can be very expensive to give them the adequate sized aquarium, proper heat and light setup and all of the accessories that go with setting up a proper tank.
You'll need a really good filtration system and you'll still need to change the water frequently. There is a lot of expense in the initial setup. Once established, however, water turtles are fun, easy to care for and do not need a lot of expense after their initial setup is done.
If you want land turtles, there is less expense but you still need the proper heat, light and tank setup.
If you've done your research and you know everything that the turtles need in order to live a healthy life, then you are ready to have the talk with your parents about the turtles.
Explain to your parents that you have done your research. Give them a run down of what you have to have to set up a proper environment for the turtle. Tell them where you will get the supplies and the turtle itself and how much it will cost.
Next, tell them you understand the responsibility involved in owning a pet turtle. Tell them what you will do to care for the turtle, how often and what help you will need.
For example, if you want your dad to build a wooden box for a land turtle, explain that you'll need help with the building of the box and initial setup but can then take care of the turtle yourself.
You must also realize that the turtles will not interact with you very much. I have land turtles that I rarely even see. They burrow down in their substrate and they don't come out much.
Water turtles are fun to watch and they do interact some. My water turtles "beg" for treats. They follow me (they swim from one end of their tank to the other) when I walk through the room and splash their water when I approach them.
Just remember, all pets deserve to be healthy and taken care of if kept in captivity. Put their health and needs first and foremost. If you can't properly care for them, don't get them as a pet.
Hi, I had the same problem only my problem was that i wanted a hamster. First i tried discussing it with my parents, they said no because they didn't want any other animals in the house. So that was the first step.
Second, I made a PowerPoint The PowerPoint had 10 pages. The first page said that i wanted them to consider the idea before saying no and that i wanted them to listen and to not interrupt The other pages were, title page, research page, the pros of having a hamster, the cost, caring for the hamster, my responsibilities, and my promise.
I showed them the PowerPoint and they said that they respected my responsibility and that as long as i could pay for everything. The total for a hamster and all its necessities is around $35 . So if you have to work it off or something don't feel bad because that will help you gain your parents respect. Good Luck !!
just take them to a petstore, show them videos of the ferret, and most of all have the money to buy the animal yourself. You have no idea what kind of change this will make on your parents decision.
i am a happy owner of 8 ferrets. im 14 years old
You should be honest with them and tell them you want a ferret. If that doesn't work, prove to them that you are responsible enough to handle taking care of a pet. You can prove this by doing research and showing them what you know about ferrets, or you could ask your friends and see if they have ferrets. If they do, you should ask them if it is hard to take care of a ferret. Also ask your friends if they like having a ferret (if they have one), then talk to your parents about what your friends said.
I have three ferrets that live primarily at my boyfriends house and then my oldest developed gastric ulcers. I told my parents the situation and that since my boyfriend had a crazy work schedule I knew my ferret wouldn't get the meds on time.
My mom said ok and i brought westyn and pyka home for two weeks. My parents decided that having them there wasn't affecting them at all and in fact made my little sister more responsible because she helped me take care of them. Only one at a time stays with me but that's my choice.
The moral of the story is help them to understand why you want one and prove to them that you can take care of one, maybe ask about fostering a single ferret, maybe an older one, contact your local ferret rescue or shelter and really get the information so its all fact when you talk about it and play on compassion for the ferrets you want to help.
If your parents see that your dedicated and that you do a good job maybe they'll give in.
The only reason I'm not allowed to have a ferret is because of our dog. I understand that most dogs get along with ferrets, but my dog has a tendency to kill small animals and is highly jealous when I interact with other animals. My mum won't trust that they will get along and thinks that she will kill it (Our dog is a Pure bred Cavaleir King Charles Spaniel). Is there a way I can seperate them without then dog knowing the ferret exists? Any ideas will help!
i know how you feel lol, i have a dachshund she barks at EVERYTHING, my mum says she will hate it but that's not the only reasons, my mum HATES them and says she doesn't want a filthy rodent in her house and cant i think of anything better. I want one so much m legit writing a BOOK about them. My advice for you is to try to save up alot so you can show you mum that you can pay for it. I hope this helped! Sorry about the spelling mistakes!
It really would'nt be a wise idea to own a ferret if your solely responsible for their care. Ferreys need a lot of attention and care for their health and welfare
Let them know you're responsible to have a ferret and beg for it constantly and make up reasons till they finally give up.
you do whatever they say even if you don't want to
A pet ferret cannot prevent you from being pregnant.
