To remove address book contacts in Skype for Mac: Skype -> Preferences -> General: uncheck "Show Address Book Contacts". Update by bookshop24-7.com:
In your Skype contact window, right click on a contact and choose "Open In Address Book". Once you are in the address book select the contact you want to delete from the 'Name' list and press your delete button. Update by SouthBayMan:
In Skype Version 2 for Linux, block the contact(s) you wish to delete by right-clicking on them and selecting "Block Contact" from the context menu. The blocked contact(s) should no longer be in your contact list. Open the Options menu (Ctrl+O), select Blocked People, make sure the box labeled "Add Contacts I unblock back to my Contact List" is UNCHECKED, then highlight the contact(s) you wish to delete and click on the "Unblock Selected People" button. When you go back to your contact list, the blocked-then-unblocked contact should be absent for good. (Yeah, it's stupid and convoluted, but it does seem to work.)
