It depends on whether you mean short stories or novel stories. For both, you need to get the latest issue of Writer's Market - but for short stories you're looking for magazines that publish the sorts of stories you write and for novels you're looking for either an agent or a publisher. It's much easier to find an agent if you have a novel finished, then let them do the work of finding a publisher while you keep writing.
In either case, read the submission guidelines carefully and do what they ask, so they're more likely to actually read your stories. Don't send a romance story to a Horror magazine, for example, or write in an unusual font when they ask for Times New Roman.
