A bachelor's degree is the first step to any law practice and while most people feel that pre-law is necessary as an undergraduate major, law schools seldom care what the undergraduate degree is in. They are more interested in being able to see the academic potential of the student.

After an undergraduate, law school is where you obtain a law degree. Most of them have a pretty standard curriculum, but there is some room to elect specific courses associated with you area of interest.

Specialization is typically done through the law firm you work for. Be sure to seek employment after law school at a firm that specializes in the area of your interest so you may learn more from your colleagues.

A post law degree, an LLM (Masters of the Letters of Law), is offered by some law schools that specialize in Elder Law.
