You have to build up your confidence and self esteem, you can do it!!! There are many self help books out but I like books by Louise Hay they are excellent. Your city library is a great place to start too. Another thing that will help you is your thoughts you are telling yourself about "you". We all criticize ourselves. Find the things about yourself that you like (yes, you do have many I'm sure) build on those. Being shy is not fun, I know, I was shy when I was younger and so was my husband, it's a miracle we ever go together. Many people are shy but you don't know it because they hide it by being very quiet and are loners.
Slowly wean yourself into the habit of exposure to shy situations. Talk to people you don't know politely and positively, give compliments genuinely, and practice understanding the shy triggers, or why you're shy at the moment of shyness.
Shyness is an habit or attitude while shame is only momemtary or occasional.
