you can feed it, give it water, pet it, be nice to it, let it run around OUTSIDE of the cage (while you're watching it of course) and talk to it. I use to have trouble with one of my hamsters, yet now we are really close, we got close from lots of visits (don't disturb if they are sleeping they will like you even more for this). You can take him/her out of her cage and such. Maybe teaching it different things such as teaching it to go up on your shoulder, you do this by giving it a treat each time it goes up on it.
