Mostly you can't. If you are concerned contact your local police department.
It is located on a sticker on the back or bottom of the projector that has the voltage rating and the serial number. If yours does not have a sticker, and you have purchased the projector used, it may have been removed to disguise a stolen item since the serial number would have been removed too.
Contact your local law enforcement and have them check the serial number on the item. If it is reported stolen then the serial number should be entered into NCIC which is a national data base that stores all the stolen information that law enforcement enters. I would check it soon, but keep in mind if it is stolen then you will loose the money that you paid for it and you will have to tell the law enforcement where you got it. Dont think of it a snitching, think if it as a way to get your money back and be happy that you were not stopped for speeding and the item was check and you went to jail for possession of stolen property.
money.
If you are allowed access to the IPod by the seller, copy down the serial number and take it to your local police agency and ask them to check the serial number for stolen. Many (most?) departments will do this as a public service. Of course, if it turns up as stolen you are going to be asked by them where the item is and who is selling it, and you will have to answer. If the deal is too good to be true, smell a rat!
Well the serial number is really designed for the company to track where the item was made, and the style of the item. I do not know of a website where you can enter the number. You can contact your local store and they can help you with the serial number
Contact your local law enforcement. They can check to see if the serial number has been entered as a stolen item. IF there is a report, the officer will need to retain the gun to return it to the owner. They WILL need to have the gun in hand to do this, not over the phone.
Valuable manufactured goods, like many major kitchen appliances, music systems, cars, guns, etc. have an identification number permanently attached. Thus, in the case of a theft, the insurance company and police have a means [ the serial registration number attached ] of identifying the stolen item if they searched a criminal's home and found items that they suspected were stolen.
Yes. You are still in possession of a stolen item.

Impossible to answer. Serial numbers are not unique to only 1 item in the world.
You can't. Call or email the company and ask for a tracking number for the item you purchased. They should give you one.
Impossible to answer without knowing what the item is.
