A PA system requires constant, at least small maintenance, since it is usually on the move from venue to venue, traveling in vehicles and being handled all the time.

For microphones: place them in a protective case when not in use. do not let them be dropped or roughly handled. Keep them clean using foam filters, and change them periodically.

For microphone cords: you can elbow-wrap them, but do so loosely, paying special attention not to pull on the wires when wrapping, and that they do not become twisted, which stresses fine wires. Check the connectors for loose screws, and the wires for cuts in the covering so as to minimize the possibility of shorts.

For speakers. Never boost, always cut your sound frequency equalization so as to minimize the possibility of blowing speakers. Use good quality speakers, since modern music encompasses a wide range of frequencies.

Also, make sure your speakers are "in phase," or else they will not sound right, no matter what else you do as to other sound treatments.

For sound boards/mixers: Utilize a road case to minimize damage to controls.

Keep them free of dust, since dust in electronic devices causes a plethora of problems.

For mic stands: Make sure that connecting wing nuts and screws tighten properly to minimize the risk of a mic falling and getting damaged.
