You can make a cat happy by giving them fresh food and water and by playing with them. I have a catnip mouse tied onto a string and she loves to play fetch and brings it back to me. Your cat will be happier if you keep their litter box clean, give them attention when they want it, but you must also give them some distance because they are an independent animal.
Special treats to eat makes them happy and my cat likes to have a smell and then a taste of what I'm eating, if she is so inclined.
My cat likes to sit in the 2nd story window of my home and look out over the yard. IF she sees another cat she goes ballistic. I put about 1 tablespoon of Clorox in a quart of water and coat my hands with this. My cat loves it, even better than catnip. She licks my hands and plays in mock attack mode. Most important, just love your cat and take care of their needs and DON'T step on them.

∙ 13y agoYou can try playing with a wand toy - many cats find wand toys irresistible to chase and pounce on. You could even try spraying a toy with catnip to entice your cat to play. Ultimately, a cat will want to play when it feels like it, and you are the best judge on when your cat is awake and alert enough to start a play session.
