First, think about whether you'd rather be "popular" or be yourself - the two things are not usually the same thing at all. "Popular" people do whatever everyone wants instead of being themselves - they're always "on stage" performing to keep people liking them, and they have to always think about what everyone else would like instead of what they would like.
That being said, the best way to become popular would be to figure out what everyone wants and do it - watch some of the popular people around you and see what they're doing.
Sometimes, though, it's just not possible to become popular by pretending to fit in if you're not that sort of actor or actress. It's a lot like politics - you have to be able to say and do what others want while sounding sincere about it.
