Sea level is rising at a rate of about 3mm/year, after rising between 1-2mm/year most of last century. It's pretty easy to measure this, and it is well documented and not generally disputed.

- building sea walls
- moving low lying houses and even towns to higher ground
- not allowing any more buildings on low lying ground near the coast
- move to higher land
- making new maps for flood zones
- planning for present wetlands which will move inwards - landwards
- planning for flooded stormwater drains
Local area governments reported the following problems in dealing with this:
- not enough funds
- not enough staff and ground workers
- not enough financial assistance
- very little legal powers
- too many other things happening.
