You would need to take the shift cable off at the transmission and move the lever manually.
Yes.
Remove the linkage off of the trans and shift it there.
put it in neutral, you can also have someone steering the car
No.
Usually, the switch has failed in the leftgate handle. The entire emblem/handle will need replaced.
Steering column locks were introduced on General Motor products in 1969 and on both Ford, Chrysler, and AMC products in 1970. On cars with automatic transmissions, these locks also prevented the gear shift lever from being moved.
The entire passenger side of the engine needs disassembled. It requires a few special tools. I would not recommend an inexperienced person attempting it.
it sounds like you are low on transmission fluid check it when the transmission is warm
If manual transmission, depress the clutch and move the shift lever into neutral. If automatic transmission, you will need the keys to unlock the shifter mechanism. There is no other way around it. As a side note, you will not be able to removed the key in neutral either as it must be in Park. Either way, with the auto trans, one is hosed.
The car has been stolen and the insurers are trying to wriggle out of it by saying the car must have been stolen using the key! Which is not the case. It couldn't have been winched onto a flatbed either. Just need to know if it is possible to put the car into neutral without the keys. Please help.
it is most likely the neutral safety switch. this is the mechanism that only allows the engine to start in neutral. i got a truck that does the same thing.
The object without charge is called Neutral object.
