The car has been stolen and the insurers are trying to wriggle out of it by saying the car must have been stolen using the key! Which is not the case. It couldn't have been winched onto a flatbed either. Just need to know if it is possible to put the car into neutral without the keys. Please help.
If manual transmission, depress the clutch and move the shift lever into neutral. If automatic transmission, you will need the keys to unlock the shifter mechanism. There is no other way around it. As a side note, you will not be able to removed the key in neutral either as it must be in Park. Either way, with the auto trans, one is hosed.
My subaru keys are locked inside. Is there anyway of getting into the car?
Tighten Up - The Black Keys
Use the spare key or call a locksmith.
Steering column locks were introduced on General Motor products in 1969 and on both Ford, Chrysler, and AMC products in 1970. On cars with automatic transmissions, these locks also prevented the gear shift lever from being moved.
If you have the keys, turn the switch forward to the "run" position press the brake pedal down and put the truck into neutral. If you are using a tow truck with a lift on it with NO keys, lift from the rear that is if it's not a 4 wheel drive.
find the keys
When pressed, it allows the shifter to be moved from park to any other gear without turning the key and depressing the brake. This allows your car to be put in neutral without having the keys in the ignition.
Tighten up by The Black Keys
try turning steering wheel back and forth while turning key to off position or make sure the transmission is in park (if its an automatic transmission)
The automatic player piano is still used today and you have to insert a piano roll to activate the keys and pump it to play.
