Procedure 1 - Your computer may let you extract the files using Windows

Right click on the .EXE file that you downloaded and select ' Extract to... '. This will allow you to specify a folder for the extracted files.

Procedure 2 - The NIC driver is in a .ZIP format

Extract the contents using WinZIP.

Procedure 3 - Extracting the files for an Intel NIC driver

Example: This document uses the Intel 82566 DM-2 Card as an example. An equivalent command line can usually be found in the device driver's "Readme file." The "Readme file" can be viewed when the driver is downloaded.

To download and expand the drivers without installing them on to the local computer following the below steps:

1. Download the Microsoft Windows Vista driver from the following Web site:
   1. Go to: http://downloadcenter.intel.com/default.aspx
   2. Navigate to the Download Center
   3. Select Ethernet Components> Ethernet Controllers> Intel 82566 Gigabit Ethernet PHY. (or other appropriate Intel card from this list.)
2. Select Windows Vista or Windows Vista 32.
3. Download to C:\temp or another convenient location with a short path name.
4. Click on Start> Run.
5. Type: C:\temp\ /s /e /f C:\temp

   Notes:

   • This assumes that you are storing the file in C:\temp as suggested in step 3. If the file is stored in a different location, type that path instead.
   • is the name of the file you downloaded. It usually has the version as part of the file name. You will want to use the exact file name of the file you downloaded.
   • This will run the download in the C:\temp directory with the switches to extract the drivers to the C:\temp directory.
6. Add the network drivers by following the instructions in the document below:
