Any atom that has more electrons than protons carries a positive charge. These atoms are known as negatively charged ions.
The nucleus of an atom carries a positive charge. The negatively charged electrons orbiting the nucleus more or less balances out the positive charge.
A thermistor an electrical resistor that resistance changes with temperature. There are two advantages of a thermistors one is it been more sensitive that the RTDÕs and thermocouples and two is has a quick response time.
While some people use a much more exhaustive and precise testing procedure, a very simple test can uncover the most common problems with a thermistor: * measure the resistance of the thermistor at room temperature with an ohmmeter. If this resistance is 0 (short) or infinity (open), then something is connected incorrectly or the thermistor has been destroyed. (These are the most common problems). If that test looks good, then a followup test can uncover nearly all the remaining possible problems with a thermistor: * put icewater in a ziplock bag and press it against the thermistor. Then measure the resistance of the themistor at freezing. The two measured values of resistance are usually adequate to identify what kind of thermistor it is. If both values are practically the same, then it's not really a thermistor -- perhaps someone has accidentally substituted a resistor. If one or both values are not the expected values, perhaps someone has accidentally substituted a different kind of thermistor.
A computer inside a digital thermometer measures the conductivity of the thermistor, which is a heat-sensitive electric conductor. The higher the temperature, the more conductive the thermistor is, and that reading is calculated and displayed by the computer.

an atom or molecule carrying charge is an ion. if there's more than one atom involved it's considered polyatomic.therefore it's called a polyatomic ion.
The working principle of a thermistor: when the temperature of the thermistor changes, its resistance will also change, so that the current will also be modified accordingly, so as to increase or decrease the temperature. An Ion. An ion can have an overall positive or negative charge. The negative charge of an electron exactly cancels the positive charge of a proton, so when an atom has an equal number of both, it carries zero charge. An ion with more protons than electrons has a positive charge, and is more specifically termed a cation. An ion that has more electrons than protons, and therefore a negative overall charge, is called an anion.
A negative ion has one or more electrons, so it carries a negative charge wich depends on the number of electrons it gained. A neutral ion did not gain or lose any electrons, so it carries no charge, therefore being neutral.
With relation to an electron the proton has a charge of -1, since the proton's charge is opposite of the electron's. However, the common notation of charge is relative to a proton's- therefore, it is more accurate to leave things in terms of a proton's charge. In terms of proton charge, a proton has a charge of +1.
