Most species of toucans are not actually on the endangered species list, but as with so many animals threats to their habitat (specifically deforestation) are a concern. To prevent more of them from becoming endangered their habitat should be protected, and over-hunting them should be prevented (they are sometimes hunted for food, and illegally taken from the wild as pets), and for those that are endangered breeding programs can help. Those things are easier said than done however.
