check for a vacuum leak, i have seen some with loose carburetor bolts which make a vacuum leak. could be a bad hose, on the distibutor, maybe a bad power brake hose, could be a number of things
You are just starting it and putting in gear from an Idle? Rev it up does it miss? The dist is probly 180 degrees out, pull dist and make the rotor point in opposite direction
BATT/ALT light on; ammeter shows no output; dim lights - start the vehicle and disconnect the battery; if the engine dies, the alternator is bad.

No once it dies like in a heart attack it cannot repair itself. This is why people die when they have a heart attack, so much of they're heart has dies that it can no longer pump blood.
you have to take it to a repair shop if you dont know why it does that & the people at the repair dont know what the heck is wrong with it. Sell it buy a new one and shut the f*** up .

If the engine light is coming on at the same time as it the engine dies and I am guessing it starts again. It may be your electric fuel pump. You left too little information about the sympton as it could be a number of things. The check engine light will come on if the engine dies. it could be your o2 sensor
