How can you repair the dashboard gear indicator on a 1993 Buick Century?

My 92 PA had the same problem. The needle would not track the gear position. If this is your problem the fix is easy but a difficult thing to do. The needle is pulled back to the far left towards the PARK position by a spring. On mine, the spring had broken loose from the plastic needle holder. You need to remove the entire gauge cluster to fix it. This is not too bad of a job. The key is to find the hidden screws in the air outlet vents. Once I got the gauge assy out, I drilled a new hole in the holder and connected the spring. That fixed the problem. I'm sure a dealer would have replaced the entire gauge assy.
