Doing this requires a second computer. What has to be done is take out the drive from the dead computer. Locate the jumpers at the back of the drive next to the IDE/Sata cable input and power ports. Change the drive to slave. Most stock drives are set up as either cable select or master. Once it has been changed to slave, install the drive into another computer and turn it on. Because it was changed to slave, the OS will not be booted from the salvaged drive. All files should be accessible for recovery now.
You can run programs from an hard drive, as long as it is plugged into a computer.
A hard drive is one of the main components of a computer where all data for the computer is stored from files essential to run the computer to personal files and documents
Yes
Partially. The answer is a little complicated as what a computer does is governed by a combination of hardware, firmware, and software. Typically the Operating System or Boot Code can be stored on a hard disk drive, so in this way the hard drive tells the computer what to do. However, there are computers that do not have hard drives or run from removable media. In that case the operating system is not run from the hard drive.
Yes, if there is no operating system on the new drive, then your computer will not run.
The hard drive
Information on a computer is stored in the hard drive. When you turn on your computer it takes information from the hard drive and puts it in the RAM (random access memory). In the RAM information like operating system and programs are run. When you turn off the computer the information in the RAM is either saved back to the hard drive or deleted. (That's the short version)
The hard drive cache is used when accessing files on your hard drive and a larger cache does improve file operation speeds.
it can clutter up the hard drive and cause the computer to run slowly
Yes, you can either PHYSICALLY put the had drive into another computer or purchase an IDE to USB adapter that you can connect directly to the hard drive and run into the USB of another computer.
To remove fragments from a hard drive you can run a disk defragmenter usually found under the advanced tab of the computer properties menu(found by right clicking on my computer or computer)
A Hard drive (or Hard disk Drive) is one of the main components of a computer. The HDD contains your operating system, all of your personal files, almost everything that makes your computer run.
