Select your first range in the normal way. Then press and hold the Ctrl key and with the mouse select the next area. The original area will remain selected. If you do this you can select cells that are non adjacent.

A less common way to do it is using the F8 key. Put the cursor in the first cell. Press the F8 key. To select several adjacent cells use the arrow keys. To stop the selection press F8 again. To stop the selection but retain the selected cell and move to a non-adjacent cell to select again, press and hold the Shift key and then press F8. Go to the cell you want using the cursor keys and then press the F8 key when you want to start selecting again. You could also just drag the mouse over different areas of the worksheet having pressed Shift and F8, in the same way as you can with the Ctrl key.

Within a formula cells that are not adjacent can be specified by listing them with a comma in between them. Ranges are specified with colons. It is possible to use both:

=SUM(A1:A20,B16,C45,D11:D13)

A range can only be cells that are adjacent and in a rectangular shape. It is possible to select non-adjacent cells but this would not be regarded as a range. See the related question below for instructions on how to select non-adjacent cells.

Select the cells and then copy them. You can copy them by many different methods, such as the icon on the ribbon, doing Ctrl - C, taking the Copy option on the shortcut menu and other ways. Go to where you want the first cell in the range to be. Then do a paste. Like copying, there are different ways, such as Ctrl - V and also from the ribbon or shortcut menu. Another way to copy it is to select the range, put the mouse on the edge and press the Ctrl key and then when you see a small cross above the mouse pointer, keep holding the Ctrl key and drag to where you want the new copy to go.

To specify separate cells and ranges in a function, you separate them by commas, like this:

=SUM(A2:A10,B16:B30,D5,G20)

If you are selecting the cells, you hold the CTRL key and then click in the other area of the sheet that you want to select cells from.
