You can say "hey, guess what?!", then make up a random story. I do it all the time. Of course this is considered lying, but if you really can't think of anything, it's ok to exaggerate, even with your best friend. They won't find out anyways, so why not? BUT, DO NOT MAKE IT TOO FICTION. Don't say, oh yea, the teacher started to disco, or my sister blew up, or I rode a rabbit in my backyard. (This sounds stupid, but try to make it believable.) Many answers are usually "Just be yourself", but thats some really stupid. If the real you is shy, then be the opposite. you dont want your friends to get bored with you so just simply lie.
