No....they do not. The Microwave cooks from the inside out. In foods that are dense in some areas and thin in others, (potatoes) cook very unevenly, and are require to be rotated and turned over during cooking. In the advent of the "Turntable" in Microwaves, the cooking became more stable and even, but in the best of conditions, they still tend to cook unevenly.
I usually defrost mine first and then heat it, flipping it over once in the middle of the cook time. It's heated evenly but usually SCALDING hot...
My mom can't stop the bursting but she can stop the mess. Put a cover over the plate. You won't have to clean the whole microwave oven. Just clean the cover. Covers are sold in stores.
