Unfortunately, you can't. If you're a kid, it's really hard, but you'll get over it. I've been there. It's not in your control, and no matter how hard it is on you or your family, it'll all simmer down soon enough. God bless.

Actually you can try when they get into a fight get in the middle of it try to stop it.One of them will probably push you out of the way just get right back in the middle. If they fight when you go to bed crack your door and listen. If you you can't stop the divorce try to keep your dad from drinking and your mom from dating a guy you don't like.

Leave or tell them you are going to leave so they won't get a divorce. That should snap them out of it. Otherwise you are not the problem, people just don't get divorced for this reason, it's about their relationship.

  • Divorce is extremely difficult for the children in the family no matter what their ages. Sometimes parents just fall out of love with each other and decide it is best to separate or get a divorce because they no longer get along and it is not a healthy environment for the children in that particular family. Often the children (if young) blame themselves for their parents getting a divorce, but this is not true and has nothing to do with the children. If you would like to try to keep your parents together then ask if you can talk to both of them and tell them how you feel. Ask if they would consider a trial separation before getting a divorce. It's worth the chance they may rethink their actions. If not, children will get to visit with each parent off and on.

You can't stop your parents from splitting up. In fact, believing that there is some way you can do that will actually work against you. It will prevent you from moving forward and having the best possible post divorce relationship with each parent. Many families manage to foster good relationships after a divorce but it takes an effort by everyone working together- the parents and the children- all supporting each other.

Unfortunately, you can't. Their decision is their own and you can't make it for them.

Tell them there is help available and they do not need to get a divorce. Marriage Counceling and self help classes will do wonders.
